The Shaw Mind Foundation takes on Newark Mind’s Art Group

Recently, it has been announced that changes are being made for Newark Mind to merge with Central Nottingham Mind and Bassetlaw Mind to create a regional Nottinghamshire Mind, which would overlook all three of the above areas.

While it’s extremely sad that Newark Mind will be relocating, this also serves as an opportunity for three local organisations to come together and continue to have a positive impact across Newark and Sherwood. And we at The Shaw Mind Foundation are delighted to say we are part of the plans moving forward. Collaboration and communication have always been key parts of what we do as a charity, so I’m very proud to say that we are working closely with ex-colleagues from Newark Mind to ensure that the needs of our local people continue to be met.

In line with this, we are also proud to announce that we are now supporting a local service that would have otherwise been lost – The Art Group, a well-attended local support group that is open to residents of the Newark area. Many of these individuals rely on the Art Group to help reduce isolation, so it’s clear that the service serves a very clear purpose and we are privileged to be a part of upholding it.

“The Shaw Mind Foundation is honoured to continue the fantastic work that Newark Mind started and to be able to continue to support our local people. The Art Group provides opportunities for local people to come together to support one another using art and creativity as a means to express themselves. We know that loneliness and social isolation can have a devastating impact on emotional wellbeing, and it is vital that we step up to help not only as an organisation but as a community,” says Kate Majid, CEO of The Shaw Mind Foundation.

The Art Group takes place on a Friday afternoon (12 – 2) at Congregational Church, 56 London Road, Newark, NG24 1TH.

Access is at the rear of the building and all materials are provided or bring your own if you prefer.

If you would like to get involved, please contact hannah@shawmindfoundation.org.

Or you can simply turn up for a taster session – we would love to see you!
